This week's team is the Maury High School girls field hockey team
NORFOLK — Every team that competes around the 757 is just as unique as the players that make it up. Each team has it’s own chemistry, it’s own motivational chant before the game and of course it’s own memories, the good and the bad. The people on your team can end up being closer than family in some cases. You share the triumph of a win and the lows of defeat. For the Maury field hockey team they have created bonds off the field and that definitely comes through on game day.
Player Hannah Fox says that teamwork is all about working well together, but they are more than just a cohesive unit on the field hockey turf. “I think that everyone on this team has a really strong bond and that we’re really good friends. I think that having that outside bond with one another helps us work better together on the field.” That outside bond seems to really be paying off, seeing that the Commodores are 4-1 this season.
“We work really well together because most of us were already friends before this so there isn’t a lot of fighting going on, we all just get along really great.” said Ashleigh Nottingham when talking about what she thinks is her teams biggest strength.
Just like any family the field hockey team has some special memories off the field too. “We went to Cloud Nine!” says Ashleigh “It was pretty awesome, we got to jump around on all these trampolines with all the girls from this season.”
There is no doubt that this team will be going strong the whole season, win or lose, because at the end of the game the girls still have each others backs and that shines through wherever this team goes.
