CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a rematch of the 2013-14 NCHSAA state semifinals, Myers Park High School defeated Ardrey Kell 67-53. The Lady Mustangs took advantage of a strong second quarter to grab an insurmountable lead against the visiting Knights.
Ardrey Kell reminded everyone in attendance why they’re one of the better teams in Charlotte early, matching Myers Park bucket-for-bucket in the first quarter, trailing the Mustangs 19-17 at the end of the first. That’s when Myers Park took control of the game, limiting Ardrey Kell to just three field goals in the second quarter. Aliyah Mazyck made her presence known, scoring 10 points in the second quarter. Mazyck finished the game with 27 points.
Myers Park continued its dominance in the third quarter, taking a 53-34 lead into the fourth quarter. Ardrey Kell got the offense clicking in the fourth, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Myers Park held on for a 67-53 victory. Ardrey Kell’s leading scorer was Darah Dewalt with 12 points.
