Navasota (Texas) receiver Tren’Davian Dickson set a record for receiving touchdowns in a season during the school’s 49-26 victory against Liberty Hill in a 4A Division I state semifinal Friday night.
Dickson, a junior who has committed to Baylor, has 35 TDs on the season, after scoring on a 65-yard play in the third quarter. Entering the game, he shared the record with Kirby Moore of Prosser (Wash.). Moore set his mark in 2008.
Dickson caught No. 34 two weeks ago in a four-TD game against El Campo and did not score last week.
He has been saying all the right things about the record with his focus on a state title for his unbeaten team rather than personal accomplishments.
He will get to add to the record when Navasota meets either Argyle or Graham in the state championship game next Friday.
Given the quality of the skill position players, including Dickson, it’s not surprise that quarterback Shelton Eppler has put up huge numbers. He threw six touchdowns Friday to give him 67 for the season (he also ran in the final score of the game).
Kicker Michel Martinez broke a state single-season record with his 106th extra point.
