THE WINNER: Mitchell Hahn
THE BASICS
School: Fremont (Neb.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 200 pounds
Athletic achievement: He averaged 18.9 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this past season, leading the Tigers (15-10) to the Class A district finals. A returning Honorable Mention Class A All-State selection as named by the Omaha World-Herald, Hahn shot 35 percent from 3-point range and 70 percent from the free throw line.
Academic excellence: Hahn has maintained a 3.86 GPA and represents one of the state’s top academic candidates in meeting the Gatorade Award’s broad criteria.
Exemplary character: A member of his school’s Letter Club, Tiger Pals and Tiger Basketball Association, he has volunteered locally at the YMCA daycare facility and as a mentor to students with special needs. He has also donated his time as a youth soccer and basketball instructor, and on behalf of his church’s youth group.
THE PRAISE
“I have been the head basketball coach at Fremont over the past 12 seasons, and I have never had the privilege of working with a better all-around young man than Mitchell Hahn,” said Tigers head coach Mark Williams. “I believe he represents the best of the term student-athlete.”
THE FUTURE: Hahn has signed with Holy Cross in Massachusetts.
