THE WINNER: Heather Bowen
School: Centennial (Las Vegas, Nev.)
Athletic achievement: She led the Bulldogs (30-8) to the regional finals this past season. Bowen batted .558 with 12 home runs, 59 runs scored and 54 RBI. Also the state’s Gatorade Softball Player of the Year as a sophomore, she smacked 20 doubles and five triples, and posted a slugging percentage of 1.141 in 2014. Bowen is a four-time First Team All-State selection.
Academic excellence: Bowen has maintained a 4.17 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally feeding the homeless and instructing youth softball players.
“Bowen is a phenomenal player,” said Dan Casel, head coach at Legacy. “She has tremendous power and her numbers are amazing. She’s also an excellent shortstop who could play on the grass and still throw you out.”
THE FUTURE: Bowen has signed with Utah.
