THE WINNER: Brandon Wimbush

School: Saint Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, N.J.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Quarterback
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 210 pounds

Athletic achievement: He has led the Marauders to a 10-1 record and a berth in the Non-Public, Group IV state championship game against Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, scheduled for Dec. 5. A 2015 Under Armour All-America Game selection, Wimbush threw for 3,020 yards and 35 touchdowns against four interceptions on 174-of-233 passing (75 percent) through 11 games. A returning Second Team All-State honoree as named by The Star-Ledger, he has rushed for 565 yards and eight scores on 52 carries entering the title game.

Academic excellence: Wimbush has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: In addition to donating his time as a youth football instructor and peer tutor, he has volunteered on behalf of his church youth group and the St. Peter’s Prep campus ministry program.

“He’s as good as we’ve seen around here in a long time,” said Nunzio Campanile, head coach of rival Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic. “He’s lights out. He’s got a really big arm, he’s really athletic, he’s become much more accurate this season, he gets the ball out fast. He seems like a bright kid because he’s always throwing to the right guy, and he makes plays with his feet. He does everything you want you’re a quarterback to do.”

THE FUTURE: Wimbush has verbally committed to Notre Dame.
