New Rochelle native Kevin Shattenkirk and the U.S. men’s hockey team earned a berth in the Olympic semifinals with a 5-2 victory over the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

Shattenkirk, a defenseman for the NHL’s St. Louis Blues, assisted on the final goal of the game, the fifth of the Olympics by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel.

Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh also had an assist for the Americans, who will face Canada — which needed a late goal to defeat Latvia 2-1 in another quarterfinal Wednesday — in a semifinal Friday.
