The Newark Generals battled all the way back from the losers bracket into the title game of the Blue Jackets Cup, but ran out of gas Sunday.
Taylor Blome scored in the third period to force overtime, off assists from Levi Beckholt and Bailey Hayden, but Northeast scored 20 seconds into the third overtime to pull out a 2-1 win in the championship game. Charlie Smart stopped 35 shots, including 12 in overtime.
Earlier on Sunday, Newark (18-15-5) eliminated Westerville 4-2 behind two goals by Chase Cherubini and one each from Cullen Blaney and Cole Jaquith. Zavier Mealick had two assists, while Smart had 21 saves.
