Northampton’s girls soccer team’s 2A East Regional playoff run ended Monday after the Jackets fell to Goochland, 4-1, in the quarterfinal.
The host Bulldogs scored its first goal two minutes into the game after converting a shot outside the 18-yard line.
“We were physically outmatched, which was magnified by the type of play and fouls that were being allowed,” said head coach Tabi Webb after Monday’s loss.
“We had our chances. We had some very nice shots that would have gone in on any other goalie. Their goalie was very good,” she said.
Northampton held Goochland scoreless the remainder of the first half but the Bulldogs scored again after the break off a blocked shot that goalkeeper Katie Spady could not recover.
Spady had 10 saves in Monday’s game.
With 35 minutes left on the clock, Taylor Webb scored the Jackets’ lone goal off a wide angle from her wing position.
Goochland would score two more goals to advance to Wednesday’s semifinal against George Mason.
Northampton was named the runner-up in the Conference 33 Tournament last Friday after falling to Maggie Walker, 5-0.
“My girls have had a very productive season. Probably the best team I’ve had as a whole ever,” Webb said.
“They are all hard working team players and I am very proud of them,” the coach added.
