Host Green Bay Southwest scored four runs in the first inning and the Sheboygan North softball team fell just short with a fifth-inning rally in a 7-5 road loss on Monday.
The Trojans added runs in the third and fourth inning to lead North (2-4, 2-2 Fox River Classic Conference) 6-0 entering the fifth.
Ashlyn Prisinger led off the frame with a triple as the Golden Raiders went on to scored five runs in the inning and cut the deficit to one run.
“We just came out flat, defensively we didn’t take care of some opportunities that would have gotten us out of that first inning,” North coach Tammy Utley said. “Offensively our bats didn’t come alive, we just had scattered hits up until that fifth inning when we finally strung some things together.”
Southwest — who handed Raven Gmach the loss — added another run in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The North ace pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Offensively, the Golden Raiders were led by Allie Spaulding and Abby Flasher, who each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Flasher also added a double while Jenna Warden finished 2-for-2 with a walk and a run.
North will host Green Bay West today at 4:30 p.m.
