Northeast hunkers down on defense

Northeast had a scrimmage against Westside last Friday night.

The offense failed to score, but the defense came up with some big plays.

The Raiders have ten returning players.

Head Coach Bruce Mullen says he made some adjustments in summer camp this year to make his guys more explosive in the hunt for the pigskin.

“Well, I think the main thing is that we were able to do some 7-on-7 drills this year and I saw that we weren’t running to the football, and that’s what we’ve been stressing, pursing the football and getting around the football,” Mullen said. “And on the offense, we’ve been expressing exposure off the ball.”

Northeast opens up the year with Southwest, which is always an inner city rivalry.

Coach Mullen says that game is usually a shootout and he expects nothing less this year.
