Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School senior Jessica Lesesky will participate in the American Family Insurance High School Women’s 3-Point Championship in Arlington, Texas, as part of the festivities taking place during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament’s Final Four weekend.
Lesesky has thousands of Northeast Ohioans to thank, as area hoops fans cast enough daily virtual ballots in support of the local prep basketball player the past several weeks for her to be selected as “America’s Dream Choice” and to earn the sixth and final spot in the competition.
The American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships will showcase 16 of the country’s top high school basketball players. The event will air on CBS at 4 p.m. on April 6.
Lesesky said at the contest’s outset that participating in the nationally televised competition would make for a storybook ending to her prep hoops career.
“I know everyone always says it would mean the world to them to win something like this, but for me, it is so much more,” Lesesky said earlier this month. “I’ve been battling POTS disease my whole life and never imagined I would be able to even play basketball, let alone, be blessed enough to compete in an event like this.”
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS, is defined as an abnormal increase in heart rate upon standing. Those affected with POTS can experience lightheadedness, exercise intolerance and extreme fatigue.
