Meet the first official member of Notre Dame’s 2016 recruiting class

Meet Tommy Kraemer. The Elder junior from Cincinnati officially became the first member of Notre Dame’s recruiting class of 2016 when he offered his pledge to the Irish just before Notre Dame’s game against Stanford on Saturday, where Kraemer was taking an official visit.

So Tommy Kraemer is a big, burly offensive tackle from the middle of the Midwest, a perfect building block for Notre Dame’s recruiting class. But who is Tommy Kraemer? We dug a bit deeper to try and find out.

— He’s really big: Kraemer is currently listed at 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds … before a buffet lunch: Look for the Irish staff to focus on building up Kraemer’s lean strength, and then for him to get in on the action right away in South Bend.

— He’s already starting to help recruit other members of the Class of 2016: This effort got started with Westlake (Calif.) quarterback Malik Henry.

— Kraemer has been a rock for Elder: And he’s been a rock star up front, too, as the Panthers have proven one of the hardest teams in the state to get past, including a huge upset of then-top 10 Super 25 squad St. Edward of Lakewood in suburban Cleveland.

— He’s partial to chicken tenders: Let’s be fair: Don’t we all love chicken tenders? Or at least we all did when we were in high school.

We still have more than a year before Kraemer heads to South Bend, which means we’ll get plenty more opportunities to find out all about the big junior. It’s high time for him to get used to that spotlight, too. It comes with the territory when you play for the Irish.
