Featuring three Southeastern Conference commitments, Oakland has been named Tennessee’s top team in a preseason listing by nationalhsfootball.com.
The Patriots are one of five Midstate teams in the rankings, after finishing 12-1 last fall and losing in the Class 6A quarterfinals to crosstown and District 7-AAA rival Blackman.
Linebacker Josh Smith (Vanderbilt), offensive lineman Jack Jones and tight end Kyle Oliver (both to Tennessee) helped push the team past perennial power and defending 6A champion Maryville, Blackman and four-time defending Division II-AA titlist Ensworth in the website’s Top 10.
