Northwest 19, Anderson 17
Northwest, ranked No. 7 in the Enquirer’s Division II area coaches’ poll, defeated Anderson in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown at the Sheakley Athletic Center Saturday evening.
First-year quarterback Devin Schnur found Darius Hayes-Carruth on a 24-yard connection to put the Knights up 6-0 early. After a lightning delay cleared out the stadium, Anderson kicked a field goal and on the ensuing kickoff, Northwest’s Shane Baldwin returned it 85 yards for a touchdown.
Halfway through the third quarter, Northwest came up with another big play when DeVohn Jackson picked up a fumbled kick and returned 65 yards for a touchdown.
Anderson made it interesting late with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Smith to Justin Dornbach. The Knights secured an onside kick with just over a minute left in the fourth to earn the win.

Finneytown 27, Bellevue 20
Finneytown senior Dante Goodwin had a 67-yard kickoff return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to break a 20-20 tie and lead his team past Bellevue in a Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown game at Sheakley Athletic Center at the University of Cincinnati Saturday.
Finneytown’s Jordan Smith finished with 199 yards passing with two passing and one rushing touchdown. Bryce Butler had 96 yards receiving and a touchdown catch, while Goodwin added a 60-yard touchdown grab.
Tate Grainger led the way for Bellevue with a passing and a rushing touchdown, while Alec Hazeres also had a touchdown run.

Miami Valley Christian and Lockland waited until the fourth quarter for the fireworks to start in their season opener late Friday night. MVCA led 15-0 heading to the fourth; both teams traded touchdowns early in the final period.
A Bransen Vilardo rushing touchdown put MVCA ahead 28-6, when Lockland came right back with two of its own.
Quarterback Jacob Cromer punched in a rushing touchdown on the Panthers’ second-of-three fourth quarter touchdowns. Cromer cut the lead to 28-20 with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Devin Coulture but that ended Lockland’s threat.
Both teams combined to rush for 494 yards, 272 of which belonged to MVCA. James Heaton led MVCA with 109 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns.

Mariemont trailed host Oakwood 20-14 Friday night, but the Warriors recovered on the road with an 18-6 advantage in the second half.
Mariemont senior quarterback Kane Coates was 20 of 40 for 301 yards and four touchdowns (one rushing). Coates’ favorite target Friday was senior David Cowart who finished with six grabs for 222 yards and two touchdowns.
Oakwood’s ground kept them ahead early – junior Sam Banke led the charge with 29 carries for 149 yards and three touchdowns.
