Athletic achievement: He won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles at the Division 1 state meet this spring, clocking a time of 36.31 seconds, which ranked as the nation’s No. 3 performance among prep competitors in 2014 at the time of his selection. Wasik also captured silver in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.94, and took fifth in the long jump. The 2013 national AAU Junior Olympic Games champion in the decathlon, he earned bronze in the pentathlon at the 2014 New Balance Nationals Indoor championships.

Academic excellence: Wasik has maintained a 4.12 GPA.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of his church community, he has volunteered locally on behalf of a youth track program.

“The time commitment required for the 10 events surrounding the decathlon is in the category of being a full-time job, but he’s done that while maintaining the highest academic standards,” said St. Edward coach Michael Young. “He leads his teammates on the track, in the classroom and in his volunteer work.”

THE FUTURE: Wasik has signed with UCLA.
