THE WINNER: Chelsea Dungee
THE BASICS
School: Preston (Okla.)
Grade: Sophomore
Position: Guard/forward
Height: 5-foot-11
Athletic achievement: She led the Lady Pirates to a 25-4 record and a berth in the Class 2A state tournament, scheduled to begin March 13. Dungee averaged 27.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 5.1 steals while shooting 60 percent from inside the arc through 29 games. A member of the USA Basketball 2013 Women’s U16 National Team, she scored a season-high 52 points to go with 12 rebounds in a win over Will Rogers College High in December.
Academic excellence: Dungee has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society, she has volunteered locally on behalf of the YMCA, her church youth group and as a youth basketball coach and camp counselor.
THE PRAISE
“Chelsea is an all-around great player, not just for scoring, but also for distributing the ball to her teammates,” said Tanya Blades, head coach at Glenpool. “She is a dominant factor for her team.”
THE FUTURE: Dungee will be a junior this fall.
