THE WINNER: Katelyn Brown
School: Southmoore (Moore, Okla.)
Athletic achievement: She led the Sabercats (31-4) to the Class 6A state championship this past season. Brown posted a 22-2 record with a 0.37 ERA, 212 strikeouts in 130 innings pitched. The 2013 Oklahoman All-City Softball Player of the Year, she also batted .449 with two home runs, 34 RBI, 32 runs and a .697 slugging percentage.
Academic excellence: Brown has maintained a 3.21 GPA.
Exemplary character: A devoted member of her parish community and a mentor for elementary school students, she has volunteered locally on behalf of the Salvation Army and multiple community-service initiatives in association with her church youth group.
“As a pitcher, Katelyn Brown was nearly impossible to beat,” said Jonathan Moy, head coach at Putnam City. “It was frustrating at times because we had a very good offensive team. She made us look very average more than once. From what I’ve seen, she's also a quality person off the field.”
THE FUTURE: Brown has signed with Southern Nazarene.
