If you thought Shore Conference Class A North was a wild mess last season, this season may turn out to be the wildest yet.
After Colts Neck scored 10 runs during the last three innings of regulation, Freehold Township scored three times in the top of the eighth to grab its first win of the season, 14-11, while handing Colts Neck its first loss.
Katie Tirabassi doubled and Rhianna Rucinski, who had three hits, and Elissa Masin each singled to help push the three runs across for the Patriots (1-2, 1-2), after they scored six in the fifth to go ahead 11-1. The Cougars (2-1, 2-1) scored four in the fifth to prevent a mercy-rule finish and Megan Royle drilled a solo home run in the sixth to make it a five-run game.
In the seventh, Colts Neck received RBI singles from Royle, who finished with four hits, and Natale Benkert before Taylor Terlizzi, who had three hits, smoked a triple to bring in two runs and knot the game at 11-11. Township’s Nicole Baptista and Colts Neck’s Molly Jackson each had three hits.
LACEY 4, JACKSON MEMORIAL 3: With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Monica Brignola singled to bring in Chelsea Howard with the game-winner in an A South clash. The Lions (3-2, 3-1) scored three time in the second to make it 3-1, but the Jaguars (3-2, 2-2) clawed back with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, when Teresa Carr drilled a two-run double to tie it up. Lacey’s Kayla Kohout had thre hits.
MIDDLETOWN SOUTH 3, MARLBORO 1: An RBI single by Aly Massa and an RBI triple off the bat of Julia Beck put the Eagles (3-2, 2-2) ahead 2-0 in the first and they held on for an A North victory. Beck and Massa each went 2-for-3, as did Hannah Milano, who stroked an RBI single to make it a three-run game before the Mustangs scored in the seventh on an RBI single by Lindsey Fhima. Maddie McMahon tossed a five-hitter for the win in the circle.
MANASQUAN 8, HOLMDEL 1: Meghan Gilly went 3-for-4, doubled in a run in the first and slugged a three-run homer during a four-run fourth, and the Warriors (2-1, 2-1) cruised in B North. Freshman hurler Victoria Galvan scattered eight hits, fanned 17 and walked one for the victory. Aimee Mnich hit an RBI double in the fourth for the Hornets (3-1, 3-1).
SOUTHERN 11, TR SOUTH 2: Up by one after two innings, Katelyn Arthur and Megan Wilk led off a five-run third by bashing back-to-back solo homers, and Jessica Hewitt scattered six hits and walked one in the circle, as the Rams (2-1, 2-1) captured the A South win. A single by Francesca Aimone, followed by Jaimie Hammett’s double and a pair of singles by Cristy Peterson and Gabriella D’Amodio helped add the other three runs during the third inning.
