WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) — Paul VI topped DeMatha 56-37 to claim the 2014 WCAC boys’ basketball title on Tuesday night at American University. Under the leadership of head coach Glenn Farello, this is the Panthers’ second WCAC championship victory in the last three years.

Junior forward Josh Reaves racked up 17 points for Paul VI, followed by senior guard Evan Taylor who finished the night with 12.
“We’ve been through everything this season as a team — wins, losses,” said Taylor. “We’re able to enjoy anything. If it’s a close game, if it’s a blowout we’re just going to keep playing hard for each other every second.”
Sophomore forward Joseph Hampton led DeMatha in scoring with 10 points, and at the half, the Stags were still very much in the game, lagging just six points behind the Panthers. Stand-out offensive performances from Reaves, Taylor and junior guard Kevin Dorsey ultimately powered Paul VI to the win and a successful 25-6 season.
