Professional soccer’s obsession with youth is well established, but even then, a recent move by the Italian giants AS Roma turned plenty of heads: the eternal city club inked a 9-year-old from Belgium to a professional contact
As reported by sources across ye olde internets, Roma completed an initial professional deal with young Pietro Tomaselli, assigning him to the club’s youth academy. No terms were disclosed, but the fact that clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United were interested in taking on the youngster almost certainly provided Tomaselli with excellent bargaining power.
If the interest from all those other powerful clubs wasn’t enough to win you over, just check out Tomaselli’s highlight reels. After all, it was Tomaselli’s viral clips which reportedly caught Roma’s eye. To say that he puts on a clinic against his fellow elementary school-aged compatriots is, well, let’s just call it an understatement.
There’s no telling if Tomaselli will actually end up playing for Roma by the time he reaches professional age. Heck, he might get injured or completely burn out on soccer and become a chef or designer. Who knows what the world holds for a precociously talented 9-year-old.
Whatever does happen, you can bet the Tomaselli show will be televised at each step along the way.
