Pleasant Grove's run end in State Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Cheyenne Greenhouse had 24 points and eight rebounds in Canyon Springs’s 56-30 victory over Pleasant Grove in the California Division I girls’ championship at Sleep Train Arena.

Charnea Johnson-Chapman added 10 points for the Canyon Springs Cougars (25-6) of Moreno Valley.

Brittany Nguyen led the Pleasant Grove Lady Eagles (25-10) of Elk Grove with eight points.

Trailing 19-10, the Lady Eagles’ 8-0 run cut the Cougars’ margin 19-15. Canyon Springs led 21-15 at the half.

As Pleasant Grove kept making turnovers and missing shots, Canyon Springs opened up its offense to outscore the Lady Eagles 19-8 in the third quarter.

Pleasant Grove cut Canyon Springs’ margin to 12 points in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars went on a 12-0 run to end any hopes of a comeback.
