Both schools set to be in state championship contention

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — The Porter Ridge Pirates will face their biggest task of the season Monday when they host Garinger High Schools. The Wildcats of Garinger are No. 4 in the North Carolina men’s soccer poll. Porter Ridge is no slouch, coming in at No. 9 in the poll.

Porter Ridge is unbeaten thus far in 2014, and they have shut out four of their last five opponents. The Pirates’ wins included road victories at Hopewell, Olympic, Mount Tabor, and Independence. Coach Ron Ladimir’s team has played extremely well up to this point.

Garinger enters the Porter Ridge contest on the heels of a 3-2 loss at Roberson High School in Asheville. The loss was the Wildcats’ first defeat after a four-game non-losing streak. Garinger also lost on September 2 1-0 at home against Charlotte Catholic.

The winner of this contest will be in the driver’s seat to win the Southwestern Conference regular season crown.
