Taylor University in Upland, Ind., announced that Portland Christian’s Johnathan Taylor – this year’s Class A state champion in the 3,200 meters – is one of its cross country signees for the Class of 2014.
Taylor finished in the top 10 in the state cross country meet the past three years, and his 3,200-meter title came a year after he finished second in the same race.
“Jonathan has consistently produced outstanding results, including multiple All-Kentucky finishes and a state championship in the 3,200-meter run this year,” Taylor coach Lance Vanderberg said in a school-issued release. “He is highly motivated and competitive, and I anticipate that he will excel in the longer distance events.”
The LaGrange native plans on majoring in social studies education at the NAIA school. It’s a Christian college located about halfway between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne.
“After spending time with guys on the team and getting to meet many awesome students and faculty, I fell in love with TU,” he said. I am gracious to God for letting everything work out so that I could attend Taylor, and I am excited to see where he takes me along this journey.”
