Merritt Island Christian School’s quarterback Max Power (2) drops back for a pass against Zion Lutheran Church & School.
Merritt Island Christian closed out its schedule Friday night in what can only be described as a season of two halves.
After getting blown out in their first five games, the Cougars nearly ended the year on a three-game winning streak, falling just short to Zion Lutheran, 42-34.
“I’m very proud of our guys,” coach David Nevad said. “They fought the whole time. A couple things didn’t go our way and we came up short. That’s how it goes sometimes.”
The Cougars went into halftime with a 21-20 lead.
Max Power rushed for a game-high 159 yards and scored all 34 of MIC’s points with five TDs. Tim Whitley also went over the century mark on the ground with 134 yards and Randy Gore contributed another 85.
