Ben Kohls belted a pair of solo home runs as the Manitowoc Lincoln baseball team topped Valders 7-1 in a non-conference game on Friday night at Municipal Field.
The Ships hung up four runs in the opening inning and tacked on another in the third.
The Vikings answered with a run of their own in the top of the fourth, but Lincoln bounced right back by pushing a run across in the home half of the frame.
The Ships tacked on two more runs in the fifth.
Kohls finished the game 3-for-3 with 3 RBI. Brian Tlachac chimed in with three hits of his own and Brock Meyer added two.
Ben Behnke and Trenton Sundsmo each had a double for Valders (3-7).
Zach Schuh took the loss. He worked five innings, allowed four earned runs on 11 hits and issued one walk.
Meyer picked up the win for the Ships (6-3), tossing a complete game, striking out seven, walking two, and surrendering just one earned run.
“Brock Meyer gave us a strong outing, tossing all seven innings. He was very efficient with his pitch count,” Lincoln head coach Bruce Steinbecker said. “Offensively, Ben Kohls led the way. He has been on a hot streak lately. We had hits up and down the lineup. It was a great team win.”
