Matt Miller finished with two hits and an RBI and Sheboygan South’s baseball team opened its season with a 2-1 win at home Tuesday against De Pere.

Carter Amundsen singled in the fourth inning to drive in Mitchell Martinez for the Redwings’ opening score, and Miller drove in Amundsen off a single later in the game to secure the win.

Tyler Zietz pitched the last two innings to pick up the win with three strikeouts, a walk and one hit. Jared Reklaitis went the first five innings with four strikeouts, three walks and three hits.

De Pere drove in its only run of the game in the fourth inning.

Both teams finished with four hits.

“It was a very well-pitched game,” South coach Craig Kloes said.

“It was one of those (games) where the guys battled, found a way to win, got some clutch hits. …” he said. “The guys just stuck with it.”

Manitowoc 11, Sheboygan North 1

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, Golden Raiders starting pitcher Andy Seymour allowed six runs and North couldn’t rebound in the Fox River Classic Conference road loss.

“He just got into trouble tonight,” Wright said of his ace.

Down 1-0 entering the inning, Seymour scored on an RBI single by Weston Nelson to tie things up.

North (0-1) was led offensively by Aaron Krugel who finished 3-for-3.

The Golden Raiders host Green Bay Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
