On April 12, Camp Randall played host for Wisconsin Football Foundation (WFF) as it recognized the top 11 high school football-scholar athletes in the state.
Spencer Fricke, from Roncalli, was awarded the All-Pro Lineman Camp Scholarship
Fricke played varsity football for Roncalli for three years and earned all-conference honorable mention as an offensive lineman in 2012 and all-conference honorable mention defensive lineman and first-team offensive lineman in 2013 in the Olympian/Packerland Conference, Large Division.
Fricke was also recognized for his academic work as well as the numerous school and community service programs that he is involved in. He plans on attending UW-Madison this fall.
“Spence is such an outstanding young man,” Roncalli head football coach Ray Baranczyk said. “He’s not only a great student, he devotes endless hours to community service. I felt that nominating him for this award was a way of paying him back.”
The 11 nominated athletes were invited to attend the Wisconsin football spring game at Camp Randall. The athletes were introduced to the crowd during half-time and were treated to a luncheon in their honor prior to the game.
The WFF allowed one nomination from every high school in the state. Nominations came in the form of letters of recommendation from teachers and head coaches; also a personal statement from the student was required. The WFF selected the 11 players from the 77 nominations to come to Madison for the ceremonies. They then selected three of those 11 to receive scholarships for college.
