Alyssa DeZeeuw’s big day helped lead the Manitowoc Lincoln gymnastics team to a fourth place finish at the West Bend West Invitational Saturday.
The Lincoln sophomore took first in all-around with a score of 35.85. DeZeeuw also racked up first place finishes on balance beam (9.425), uneven bars (8.775), and floor exercise (9.35).
Her performance on floor tied a school record.
Ships head coach Jacque Bartow was thrilled with the performance.
“I’m just so proud. She’s worked so hard in the offseason to push herself to get new skills, Bartow said. “Watching her on beam was amazing.”
Sloan Tackett took sixth in vault for the Ships.
“She has a lot of talent, a lot of potential,” Bartow said. “She’s just beautiful to watch on vault because she’s so explosive.”
From a team standpoint, Bartow was glad to see her team get a chance to resume competition after nearly a month off.
“I think they were pretty much trying to shake the rust off from the Christmas break,” Bartow said. “They’re used to the comfy gym that we have with a nice a relaxed atmosphere. I think the girls were a bit nervous today, so we just kind of took it as getting back into the swing of things.”
Lincoln returns to competition Monday when it travels to Oshkosh.
Stats for Valders/Roncalli were not submitted in time for print deadline.
