Prep hockey: Appleton United boys, girls win


The Appleton United boys’ hockey team took third place in the Badgerland Conference tournament in Fond du Lac on Saturday.

Carver Watson scored three goals and had an assist to lead Appleton to a 4-2 victory over Oshkosh.

Trenton Bliss had the other goal for Appleton, and also had two assists. Devon Blob had three assists for the United (12-6-4).

Five of the six goals scored in the game were on the power play.

James Schroeder made 30 saves in goal for Appleton.

At Tomahawk, the United held Tomahawk to four shots and goaltender Libbey Breaker posted the shutout.

“They couldn’t get anything started,” United coach Marcus Nejedlo said of Tomahawk. “We played very defensive-minded hockey.”

Greta Brown and Emma Kohl scored for Appleton (13-6-1).
