Post-Crescent sports reporter Ricardo Arguello goes one-on-one with Neenah track and field athlete Jessica Parker:
Q: You have been running varsity track since your freshman year. Is it difficult to believe that your high school career will be in over in less than four weeks?
A: I can’t believe my high school track experience is almost over. The past four seasons have flown by, and I’m sad I’ll have to leave. My teammates and coaches have supported me by pushing me to work hard throughout high school, and they are the ones I will miss the most. I will definitely be filled with emotion my last race.
Q: What’s it like running in a family that is so successful at cross country and track? How much did that help push you to be better?
A: I am lucky to have a supportive family that loves to run too. I think it’s made it easier for me, especially with having my sisters, because I always have someone to run with. It can be hard to get out the door for a run some days, and having them to motivate me has helped make me a better runner. I’ve been able to share a lot of memories and successes with them, which not many people get to experience.
Q: Congratulations! You just won two first-class vacation packages to anywhere in the world…where are you going and whom are you taking with you?
A: Jennifer has always wanted to go to Africa. She really likes hippos, so I would take her on a safari.
Q: Your twin sister, Jennifer, is also a successful athlete. You often hear stories about twins finishing each other’s sentences and other type of sixth-sense type of connections. Have you and Jennifer experienced anything like that?
A: We sometimes say the exact same thing at the exact same time. When this happens, we’ll just look at each other funny and pretend it didn’t happen.
Q: It’s favorites time! What’s your favorite TV show?
A: “Criminal Minds.”
Q: Favorite movie?
A: “White House Down.”
Q: Favorite vacation spot?
A: Long Beach Island, New Jersey
Q: Favorite aspect of Neenah High School?
A: Students have amazing pride for the school and we all support each other.
Q: Favorite musical artist?
A: Adam Levine
Q: Favorite Hollywood dream date?
A: Ryan Reynolds.
Q: Favorite store at Fox River Mall?
Q: Favorite meal prepared by mom?
A: Stuffed peppers
Q: Favorite childhood toy?
A: Polly Pockets.
Q: Oh no! You’re stranded on a desert island! You have plenty of food and water, but in this scenario, you get to have three things with you on the island. What would those three things be?
A: A hammock, Frisbee and friends.
Q: What’s the next step for you? Where are you going to college? Will you be running track or cross country?
A: I will be attending Marquette University next year and running on both the cross country and track teams. I’m excited to run with both of my sisters again.
