ATHENS

The Homer baseball team remained unbeaten while picking up a doubleheader sweep of Athens in Big Eight Conference baseball on Friday.

The visiting Trojans won by scores of 11-0 and 10-0.

Homer’s Dylan Thomas picked up the Game 1 victory in four innings, allowing two hits with five strikeouts. Also for the Trojans (6-0, 2-0 Big Eight), Alex White had three hits with a double and an RBI; Brock Ridgeway had three hits with a double and two RBIs; Nate Sitkiewicz doubled with two RBIs; Gary Thompkins singled with two RBIs; and Thomas helped his cause with a double and two RBI.

In Game 2, Homer’s Brock Ridgeway earned the win in six innings, allowing four hits with five strikeouts. Sitkiewicz had three hits with a double and two RBIs; White had two hits with a double and an RBI and Brock Ridgeway had two hits and three RBIs. For Athens (0-3, 0-2 Big Eight), Austin Cole had two singles and a stolen base.

Kalamazoo Christian 13-2, (at) Galesburg-Augusta 9-1 (Thu.): In the Game 1 loss for Galesburg-Augusta, Jordan Born was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI; Tyler Dunithan was 2-for-4 with an RBI; and Zach Reister had an RBI. In the Game 2 defeat, Born allowed just one hit with five strikeouts. The Rams’ Blake Peterson was 2-for-3; Dylan Whitney was 2-for-2; and Zach Howes had a hit with an RBI.

0-1 (Thu.): The Panthers won their season opener in three innings, and Game 2 in five innings. In Game 1, Taylor Macomber was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts, Sydney Macomber had two hits and an RBI, Tacey Piper had a hit and an RBI, Bree Nowakowski had two hits and two RBIs, and Alexa Rivera had a hit and three RBIs. In Game 2, Allison Kienast tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Offensively, Sydney Macomber had two hits and an RBI, Cassie Murphy had a hit and an RBI, Taylor Piper had a homer and a single and two RBIs, Taylor Macomber had a hit and two RBIs, Lydia Swager had two hits and two RBIs, and Mallory Hollowmon had two doubles and three RBIs.

Concord 11-11, (at) Union City 0-2 (Thu.): In Game 1, Shayne Hasty had Union City’s lone hit. In Game 2, Brianna Burnham, Carley Dibert, Haley Harty, Hasty, Skyler Herman and Riley Smith had singles.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Quincy 6, (at) Hanover-Horton 0 (Thu.): The Orioles kicked off their season with an Independent Soccer League victory. Liz Counterman had two goals and one assist, Mackenzie Moore had goals, Caiylin Hines and Gaby Masson had single goals, Angelica Sussex had two assists, Ashton King had an assist and Haley Askew made two saves in the nets.

Coldwater
0 (Thu.): The Cardinals lost the non-league game on a penalty kick and are now 1-2 overall. Mina Wellet made two saves in goal for Coldwater, and Shelby Bowers had three saves.

BOYS’ GOLF

KVA Tri-Meet: Olivet won the tri-meet at Mulberry Fore GC with a team score of 179. Delton Kellogg was second with 185 and host Maple Valley was third with 210. Olivet’s top scorers were Ben Koeske (43), Keegan Carpenter and Tyler Masters (44s) and Justin Kepsel (48). Delton Kellogg was led by Sarah Shipley, Anthony Houtrow and Dreke Lutterbeck (43s) and Joe Tolhurst (56). Maple Valley’s top golfers were medalist Jordan Denton (40), Hunter Hilton (48), Bailey Weiler (57) and Dillon Walker (65).

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Pennfield 12, (at) Vicksburg 7 (Thu.): Pennfield was led by Chris Acton with five goals wheil Ethan Everett had three goals and three assists. Also for the Panthers, Nick Schwarz had four goals; Bryce Bohrmann had a goal and three assists; Zac Wilber had three assists and Collin Prideaux made 11 saves in goal.
