SARTELL – The St. Cloud Icebreakers went 2-0 in the four-team Sartell/Sauk Rapids girls hockey tournament Tuesday by beating Fargo North/South 3-1 at Bernick’s Arena.
The Icebreakers received a pair of goals and an assist from freshman forward Allie Cornelius and a power-play goal from Haley Hjort. Sam Eisenreich also had three assists for St. Cloud.
Maddy Schmaltz scored the lone goal for Fargo North/South.
Molly Martin got the goaltending win, making 13 saves.
NEW ULM 4, SARTELL/SAUK RAPIDS 3
SARTELL – Brittany Denn scored a shorthanded goal at 16:22 of the third period to lift New Ulm past Sartell/Sauk Rapids at Bernick’s Arena.
It was Denn’s second goal. Erika Ries also had two goals for New Ulm, which had 30 quality scoring chances to Sartell/Sauk Rapids’ 17.
The Storm’N Sabres received goals from Olivia Stockinger, Bria Ferns and Sarah Kaschmitter. Amanda Flemming had a pairt of assists for Sartell/Sauk Rapids.
HASTINGS HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
RIVER LAKES 3, APPLE VALLEY 2
HASTINGS – Sophomore forward Alyssa Meed lifted the Stars into the championship game with two goals.
In addition, senior forward Allie Stanger collected two assists and freshman Jordyn Tomaszewski made 31 saves to earn the win for River Lakes (13-2-1).
The Stars will face the winner of Hastings and Henry Sibley in the championship Wednesday at noon in Hastings.
ROGERS 4, PRINCETON/BIG LAKE/BECKER 1
COON RAPIDS – Paetyn Levis had a hat trick to lead Rogers to the win at the Cardinal Cup.
Kenzie Skuza scored for Princeton/Big Lake/Becker with an assist to Shaylee Iverson.
CROOKSTON HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
LP-GE/W-DC 9, Jamestown (N.D.) 0
CROOKSTON – Lupita Mora and Kenzie Christianson each scored two goals apiece to lead Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek to the win over Jamestown (North Dakota) at the Crookston Holiday Tournament.
Ashlee Helseth, Kaatelyn Barthel, McKayla Woods, Morgan Zeise and Zara Einerwold also had goals for LP-GE/W-DC.
ST. CLOUD CATHEDRAL 7, SAUK RAPIDS 1
Junior forward Logan Neu scored three straight goals in the first period give the Crusaders an early lead in the Granite City Classic at the Municipal Athletic Complex. Neu also collected three assists.
Junior forward Matson Courrier had three goals and two assists and junior Camren Dehler stopped nine shots to get the win.
Wyatt Orth scored on an assist from Brandon Mixwell and sophomore Lukas Marlin had 33 saves for the Storm.
SARTELL 6, PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 1
Matthew Moran scored a pair of power-play goals and had an assist as Sartell overwhelmed Providence Academy in the Granite City Classic at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
William McCabe, Austin Gohl, Cullen Chisholm and Colin Johnson also scored goals for the Sabres. Spencer Zwiener had three assists for Sartell.
Sartell scored three goals in four power-play opportunities.
Taylor Marthaler got the win in net, making 14 saves.
Jackson Sonderby scored for Providence.
RIVER LAKES 4, MONTICELLO/ANNANDALE/MAPLE LAKE 1
Connor Beltz scored a pure hat trick to lead River Lakes to the victory in the Granite City Classic at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
Mitchell Schirmers also scored for the Stars.
Beltz had three first-period goals at 2:01, 4:02 and 9:29. Grant Thompson assisted on two of them and Matt Prozinski also earned assists on two of Beltz’s goals.
Trevor Nodland scored for Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake.
Trevor Meed made 10 saves for the win in net.
Sauk Centre/Melrose wins Brainerd Invitational
BRAINERD – The Sauk Centre/Melrose boys swim team won the Brainerd Invitational for the first time Tuesday night.
Sauk Centre/Melrose finished with 651 points to beat Brainerd (580), Orono (425), Bemidji (318) and Perham (61).
“It was really good,” Melrose/Sauk Centre head coach Nathan Meyer said. “For us, winning this invitational with big schools like Brainerd and Orono, leaves us pretty happy.
“We’re really happy because overall as a team everyone swam well.”
Ben Heller won two events for Sauk Centre/Melrose. He took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 52.43 seconds). He also was first in the 500 freestyle (5:13.49).
Kenny Warzecha took second in the 200 individual medley (2:18.01) and the 100 butterfly (59.09).
Heller, Warzecha, Matthew Beste and Justin Hoppe were part of Melrose/Sauk Centre’s winning 200 freestyle relay. They had a time of 1:37.64.
Melrose/Sauk Centre (4-0) next competes in the Maroon and Gold Invitational at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis.
