Lakeview’s Matt Alderink shot a 37 at Binder Park on Wednesday – just enough to give him medalist honors – as the Spartans ran away with first place in the first Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference Eastern Division Jamboree of the season.
Trailing just behind Alderink were Lakeview teammates Andrew Walker and James Stabb, as well as Marshall’s Aaron McCoy, who all shot 38’s.
Lakeview shot a team score of 156 with Marshall second at 168. Coldwater finished in third (176), Harper Creek was fourth (194) and Sturgis finished in fifth (196).
Also scoring for Lakeview was A.J. Moore and Jared Fisk, who each shot a 45.
Marshall’s other scorers were Brandon Hawkins (41), Jared Gardner (43) and Tanner Blowers (46).
Scoring for Coldwater was Cam Ruge (42), Nolan Duda (43), Nathan Waterbury (45) and Scout Case (46).
Harper Creek’s scorers were Nick Webb (46), Zach Wilson (49), Tanner Brayer (49) and Alex Johnson (50).
St. Philip 197, Delton Kellogg 180: Delton Kellogg’s Sarah Shipley took medalist honors, shooting a 39 on the back nine of the Mullenhurst Golf Course. Delton Kellogg’s other scorers were Dreke Lutterbeck (45), Jesse Mishler (47) and Anthony Houtrow (49). Scoring for St. Philip was Brendan Gausselin (42), Freddie Hallacy (44), Brent Finnila (55) and Trenton Bartsch (56).
Harper Creek 3-3, (at) Lakeview 1-4: Harper Creek’s Ben Sellen gave up just one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts to earn the win. Joe Ramos had three hits including a double and an RBI, Mickey Barea had two hits and scored two runs and Noah Hayes had a double with two RBIs in the Beavers’ win. For Lakeview, Hunter Bost had a hit and a run in the loss. In Game 2, Lakeview’s Nate Jones picked up the win on the mound, giving up three hits and two earned runs. The Spartans’ Skyler Nichols and Nick Jones had two hits apiece in the win. For Harper Creek, Barea, Hayes and Joe Stasa each had two hits.
Marshall 11-11, B.C. Central 1-1: In Game 1 Marshall’s John Dorosh gave up no earned runs and struck out eight through four innings to pick up the win on the mound. Dan Welke went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs in the win for the Redhawks. In Game 2. Walton picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven through three innings. Drew Maisner had two hits and three RBIs, Mitch Konkle had two RBIs in the win for Marshall (3-0, 2-0 SMAC East).
(At) Pennfield 3-1, Parchment 0-2: Tanner Dean threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout to earn the win on the mound for Pennfield in Game 1, striking out nine. In Game 2, Parchment scored in the final inning to sink the Panthers. Moore was 2-for-2 in the loss.
(At) Marshall 15-17, B.C. Central 0-2: Brooklyn Patton got the Game 1 win for Marshall, allowing no hits with five strikeouts in the mercy-rule shortened three-inning game. The Redhawks’ Lindsay Gardner had three hits and three RBIs in the win. E.J. Marshall added two hits and Kaylie Bates had two hits for Marshall (2-0). In Game 2, Ashley Kent was the winning pitcher for Marshall, striking out nine and giving up one hit through four innings. Kent helped her own cause with a home run and three RBIs at the plate. The Redhawks’ Tess Meade had four hits while Madison Couch and Gardner had three hits apiece in the win. In Game 2 Sara Bagent scored two runs for Battle Creek Central.
(AT) Lakeview 14-7, Harper Creek 7-14: Lakeview and Harper Creek split this division doubleheader with the Spartans’ Kayla Calloway earning the win in the first game and the Beavers’ Taylor Shellenberger getting the victory in the nightcap. Katie Reimer had three hits for Lakeview in the first game with Brianna Ashley getting two RBIs. For the Beavers in the first game, Sam Tilley had a home run, Taylor Shellenberger had three hits and Paige Shellenberger had three RBIs. In the second game, Ashley had four hits and Miranda Frye had three hits for the Spartans. Paige Shellenberger had four hits and eight RBIs and Taylor Shellenberger had three hits and four RBIs.
Parchment 25-15, (at) Pennfield 2-0: Jessica Roan and Alexa Stephenson each had RBI singles in the Game 1 loss for Pennfield.
(At) Lakeview 4, Coldwater 0: Bre Greene, Ava Cook, Marti Floyd and McKenzie Wilcox scored goals for Lakeview. Shelby Bowers had eight saves in goal for Coldwater (1-1, 0-1). Maddy Olsen had six saves for the Spartans (2-0, 1-0 SMAC East).
(At) Parchment 5, Pennfield 3: Pennfield’s Kayler Beech, Alexi Thurston and Rachel DeHart scored in the loss. Madison Rench had an assist for the Panthers (1-1) and goalkeeper Caitlin Reed had 13 saves in goal.
Olivet 2, (at) Maple Valley 0: . Olivet’s Lena Peak and Ashley Harmison each scored and Harmison and Kayti Case each had an assist. Maple Valley goalie Kristin Primm had 12 saves.
Pennfield 17, East Lansing 4: Scorers for Pennfield were: Chris Acton, four goals; Ethan Everett, three goals; Bryce Bohrmann three goals; Nick Schwarz, three goals; Carter Needham, two goals; Michael Davis, one goal; and Justin Lamb one goal. The Panthers improve to 2-0 with the win.
