Prep roundup: Melrose gymnasts take down Alexandria

MELROSE – The Melrose gymnastics team defeated Alexandria in a nonconference dual Monday night.

Melrose had 148.55 points to Alexandria’s 135.75.

The Dutchmen’s Jailyn Brinkman won the all-around (37.8) while also winning the beam (9.65) and bars (9.65).

Melrose’s Lydia Butkowski won the vault (9.475) and tied for first on the floor exercise (9.45) with Alexandria’s Hannah Wendel. Butkowski took second in the all-around (37.75).

OSAKIS 36, PAYNESVILLE 30

PAYNESVILLE – Osakis downed the Bulldogs in a nonconference dual.

Jacob Mages (170 pounds) and Derek Ludwig (220) both had pins for Paynesville.

Eric Sanquist (113), Cameron Schmitz (152), Devin Meagher (160) and Michael Ludwig (195) also each had wins for the Bulldogs.

SAUK RAPIDS 95, ROCORI 86

COLD SPRING – Rocori was led by senior Codey Barby and junior Sam Meyer, but it wasn’t enough as Sauk Rapids slipped past the Spartans in Central Lakes Conference action.

Barby finished first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Meyer finished first in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke.

Barby and Meyer finished first together in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay, along with sophomores Nick Austad and Graham Hoese.

Freshman Joshua Deering finished first in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle for Sauk Rapids.

FERGUS FALLS 105, ST. CLOUD APOLLO 73

The Otters downed the Eagles at Apollo High School.

The Eagles’ Lucas Gerads took second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.27) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.46). Ben Boucher took second in the 200 IM (2:27.41) and Corey Carlson was second in the 500 freestyle (5:41.10) for Apollo.
