MARSHFIELD – Deadlocked through eight innings, Wausau East took a lead in the top of the ninth, only to watch it slip away.

Autumn Slowiak hit a two run single to bring in the game-winning runs to steal a 5-4 victory from the Lumberjacks Thursday.

“We got off to a good start and led most of the game, but East battled and took the lead in the ninth,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss. “The girls came up with some clutch hits to get the job done.”

Kayla Kluge and Miranda Baierl had singles in the key inning.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Down five runs in their last at-bat, the Assumption need a rally to avoid a second Marawood Conference South Division loss.

Third baseman Jenny Fuller had to finish the first game in the circle, when starter Megan Buntrock went down with a knee injury. Buntrock hurt her knee legging out a single in the bottom of the fifth.

Maddi Hohl hit a solo home run in the first inning of the second game and Hanna Wirkus hit a two-run shot in the second game as well.

SPENCER – Alex Brostowitz was 3 for 5 with a double and four RBI to lead Spencer to a Cloverbelt Conference East Division win.

Bobby Pilz and Matt Ivacic each had two hits for the Rockets. Pilz scored three times and also had a double.

Cardinal Invitational

WAUSAU – The Newman Catholic girls edged Wittenberg-Birnamwood while the Marathon boys were dominant at the Cardinal Invitational at Newman Catholic.

Rachel Zastrow won two events to help Spencer place fifth. She cleared 10 feet to win the pole vault and won the 100 hurdles in 16.81 seconds. She was second in the 300 hurdles.

Isaac Castellano picked up a win for Auburndale, as the boys finished fourth. He won the 800 in 2 minutes, 4.38 seconds.
