Making its third consecutive Division 2 regional appearance, the Harper Creek softball team came up short in its bid to bring home some more hardware.
Carleton Airport ended the Beavers’ season on Saturday with an 8-0 victory in a regional semifinal at Chelsea High School. Tecumseh would go on to claim the regional championship with a 5-0 win over Carleton Airport in the final.
The Beavers tallied three hits in the loss.
“The score doesn’t indicate how well we played in the game today,” said Harper Creek coach Bill Burritt. “I thought we prepared well this week for Carleton, but their pitcher kept us off balance. We could have folded after the first inning but we showed a lot of heart and didn’t quit.”
Paige Shellenberger and Haley Burritt had a hit apiece in the loss, while Sam Tilley doubled. Taylor Shellenberger allowed eight hits with four strikeouts in the circle.
At Otsego: Fourth-ranked Stevensville-Lakeshore ended Gull Lake’s season with a 5-2 victory in the regional semifinals. In the loss for Gull Lake (25-13), Courtney Senkewitz had a hit and an RBI. Stevensvile-Lakeshore went on to defeat Paw Paw in the regional championship, 11-0.
At Bronson: No. 2-ranked Bronson saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to Coloma in the regional championship game. The Vikings (36-5) advanced by way of a 12-2 victory over Hartford in the regional semifinal.
