Overton assistant Richard Campbell will miss tonight’s game against visiting Centennial as he remains hospitalized following a “freak accident” that occurred during a preseason scrimmage.
During the Bobcats’ Aug. 12 practice game against Lipscomb, a tackle along the sideline resulted in Campbell getting cleated in the shin. The gash later became infected, and complications from the ensuing treatment – which has included two surgical procedures — have affected his kidneys and lungs.
“We don’t know when he’s going to get to go home,” Overton coach Steve Williams said of Campbell, who was admitted on Aug. 18 and missed the team’s appearance in the Metro Jamboree as well as last week’s loss to Father Ryan.
“It’s been tough on our kids, on our coaching staff. We’ve been in touch with him every day. The presence of him, he has such a great relationship with our kids … He’s been sorely missed.”
