Coming out on the floor after halftime, the top-seeded Phantoms buckled down on defense and chipped away.

Proctor took the lead with 7:14 remaining in the fourth quarter and did not relinquish it, eventually beating the Mounties 40-13 to capture its third straight D-IV state title.

Senior Carly Trombley led the way for the Phantoms (21-2) with nine points. Abby McKearin also tossed in nine points, including a 3-pointer that gave Proctor the lead 45 seconds into the final frame.

McKearin also grabbed seven rebounds, while Megan Elrick added seven points and seven rebounds.

Monica Schmelzenbach had 11 points and three steals for MSJ (21-3), while Shannon Elms and Gwen Breslen each chipped in with five points.

This is Proctor’s third straight state crown and fourth overall.
