PRP girls win state bowling championship; Scott County takes boys' title

The Pleasure Ridge Park High School girls’ bowling team beat Bryan Station 3-2 in the best-of-five title match to capture the team title at the Ebonite/KHSAA State Championships held Friday at Collins Eastland in Lexington, Ky.

PRP beat Bryan Station 223-172, 194-202, 169-191, 213-183, 195-193 to win its sixth state championship in the past eight years and its second since the Kentucky High School Athletic Association began sponsoring the event in 2012. Its previous state titles came as part of the Kentucky High School Bowling League.

PRP was second among the 16 teams in the qualifying round with a total of 1,151 and then beat John Hardin, Male and Graves County to reach the championship match.

Bryan Station finished 12th in qualifying before knocking off Campbell County, Newport and 2013 state champion Taylor County to reach the final.

Male defeated Sacred Heart 3-1 to reach its quarterfinal match with PRP. Mercy fell to Newport 3-1 in a first-round match.

Scott County won the boys’ championship by defeating Highlands 231-206, 190-213, 233-155, 206-166 in the final.

Manual was the top team in qualifying with a total of 1,363 and beat Thomas Nelson and Henry Clay before falling to Scott County 3-0 in the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, Bullitt Central lost to Scott County 3-2 and Fern Creek fell to Highlands 3-2-1. Fern Creek beat St. Xavier 3-0 in a first-round match.
