SACRAMENTO – The tournament magic for the Capital Christian Cougars fizzled on Saturday night, as Ivan Rabb, one of the nation’s most sought after recruits, led Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland to a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) NorCal Boys Open Division Championship at Sleep Train Arena.
Rabb scored 26 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and six blocks to lead Bishop O’Dowd into the CIF State Championship with a 70-60 victory over Capital Christian.
DJ Wilson helped combat Rabb’s dominance by outscoring him with a game-high 29 points, while Nifae Lealao also battled with the 6-10- junior, but would be plagued with foul trouble, before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
In their third NorCal finals appearance, the Cougars remain without a victory, falling to 0-3.
Bishop O’Dowd (28-4) will face Gatorade State Player of the Year Stanley Johnson and Mater Dei of Santa Ana in the State Championship. Mater Dei (34-0) narrowly defeated Westchester in the SoCal title game 59-54 on Saturday.
