So far within the White and Blue divisions of the Monmouth County Tournament, the higher seeds have advanced. Red Bank was the fifth to do so on Friday.
In a White Division quarterfinal, Jamie Mannino swatted a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth to score Jess Stevenson with the game-winner, as the No. 11 Bucs (11-8) got by No. 14 Colts Neck, 5-4. Mannino and Stevenson each went 2-for-4.
With Red Bank up 4-1 through six innings, Meghan Royle tied the game with a three-run home run. Katie Serkus was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits while striking out seven and walking three.
HOLMDEL 10, OCEAN 7: After back-to-back RBI singles by Aimee Mnich and Kelly Guerin, who each had two hits, pushed the Hornets (10-10) ahead by two, then two errors allowed three more runs to score in the top of the eighth, and they hung on to beat the Spartans (13-6). Holmdel’s April Licato went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the second. Veronica Woehr slugged her sixth homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.
RARITAN 8, TR SOUTH 1: Bethany Budner’s two-run single scored Bethany Evans amd Clare DeJoy with the only runs the Rockets (12-6) needed, and winning pitcher Nicole Coppolino struck out eight and allowed five hits, as Raritan bumped off the Indians in a nondivisional contest. Sam Allen’s RBI triple in the seventh accounted for South’s run, while Gabby Loffredo ended up 2-for-3 with a double.
MONSIGNOR DONOVAN 10, BARNEGAT 0: Samantha Broo went 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI while Nikki Davis and Mackenzie Bakker each went 3-for-4, and Courtney Tylutki fanned seven while giving up four hits and no walks, as the Griffins (15-2, 13-1) clinched at least a tie for the B South title, the first for head coach Debbie Schwartz. Rebecca Drake went 2-for-3 for Donovan.
MONMOUTH 11, FREEHOLD 1: Taylor Hager, who had three hits, whacked a two-run double during an eight-run second inning to spark the Falcons (7-11), and Megan Mego scattered eight hits and walked one in a nondivisional victory. Jade Eggleston bashed a double and triple for Monmouth.
BRICK 13, LAKEWOOD 0: Nicole DiFoglio went 3-for-3 with a double and three-run homer as part of an 11-run first inning, while winning pitcher Christine Frazee smashed a three-run homer during the first as well, and the Green Dragons (2-16) went on to down Lakewood in an nondivisional contest. Kristi Kawa ended up 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for Brick and teammate Jess Heinly went 2-for-2.
SJ VIANNEY 18, RUMSON-FH 0: Ashley Ventura struck out 10 and walked none for her third perfect game of the season, while Jackie Gallagher and Kate Baron each tripled and Brianna Keelan doubled, as the Lancers (17-0, 14-0) finished undefeated in divisional play for a fifth straight season.
MANALAPAN 20, NEPTUNE 1: Winning pitcher Kristen Ruggiero, Cara Settanni, who drove in a pair of runs, and Olivia Cafaro each swatted three hits, and Dana Lisi doubled and drove in three runs, as the Braves (7-7) scored the nondivisional rout. Alexis Moorman also doubled for Manalapan.
