Reed AD Coombs takes WCSD position

By

Reed athletic director Ron Coombs has resigned the position to take a job with the Washoe County School District.

Coombs, who oversaw the Raiders’ athletic department for five years, said he will work as a school improvement coordinator for the WCSD. His first day in his new position was Tuesday.

Coombs spent 19 years at Reed as a teacher, coach or administrator. During his time as the AD, he spearheaded efforts to improve the Raiders’ softball and football/soccer facilities, helped establish a scholarship fund and saw a number of Reed teams, including football, girls basketball and softball, compete annually for region and state titles.

“There’s a lot of highlights there,” Coombs said. “One of the bigger ones is seeing kids succeed who had struggled previously. It’s been an outstanding five years.”
