Sophomore Christian Reed hit two free throws with 4 seconds remaining to lift Silver Creek to a 37-36 victory over Brownstown at North Harison High School on Saturday night for the school’s first Class 3-A Sectional 30 championship since 2000.
The victory capped an improbable run for the Dragons (15-8), who upset Madison in the first round, Corydon in the semifinals and the five-time defending champion Braves (20-4) in the final.
The win avenged a 55-30 loss to Brownstown on Feb. 25.
Reed’s two free throws were only his third and fourth points in a game that went back and fourth the whole night.
Brownstown got one last shot at a victory, but an attempted shot just inside the 3-point line failed.
Nick Tinsley led Silver Creek with nine points and Gabe Bauer added eight.
Austin Snodgrass led Brownstown with 15 points.
The sectional title was Silver Creek’s 12th in history, but only its second since 1982.
