Reigning champions capture top seeds


Last season’s Morris County Tournament champions reigned supreme as the boys and girls seeding meetings took place Sunday afternoon.

Mount Olive, which won its first MCT title in school history last year with a 67-54 win over Chatham, took the top seed on the boys side. Morris Catholic, which won its ninth title last year with a 41-35 victory over Hanover Park, was named the No. 1 seed on the girls side.

For the boys, undefeated Jefferson received the No. 2 seed. Morristown was awarded the third seed, Mendham was named the fourth seed, Hanover Park was named No. 5, West Morris was the sixth seed and Chatham rounded out the top seven. The top seven seeds for both the boys and the girls receive byes into the first round.

The preliminary round must be played by Saturday, Feb. 1. The first round needs to be completed by Feb. 8 and the quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb. 15 at Randolph High School. The semifinals will again be played at the County College of Morris on Feb. 22 at 5 and 6:30 p.m. The final will be held at CCM on March 1 at 7 p.m.

For the girls, West Morris as given the No. 2 seed, Randolph was awarded the third seed, Chatham was named No. 4, Mount Olive was given No. 5, Morristown-Beard was given the sixth seed and Jefferson was named the seventh seed. The preliminary round needs to be played by Saturday, Feb. 1.
