Rocky Mountain High School junior Asiah Lawson is one of three girls basketball players averaging double figures or near-double figures for the Lobos. She has had games of 27 and 25 points this season, including a 25-point game in the Lobos’ 54-51 win against Monarch on Friday.
Question: You guys went to Disney World for a basketball tournament over the winter break. What was that like?
Answer: It was a great experience. We got to see a lot of competition there from all over. It was a good experience to have with the team.
Q: I know you might be out of the age range, but were you excited to meet Mickey Mouse?
A: Yes. We all were.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do off the basketball court?
A: I like to hang with friends, or go hiking, being active outside.
Q: Does your family go on camping trips?
A: Yeah. In the summer, we do a lot of camping around here in Colorado. (My favorites are) Steamboat or Red Feather.
Q: If you could trade places with any actor in any movie, who would it be?
A: Maybe Catniss from the “Hunger Games.”
Q: What is a Lobo?
A: I think it’s just a wolf, right?
Q: Is it the most fearsome mascot of the four city schools?
A: Probably, yeah.
Q: Who’s your favorite basketball player?
A: Michael Jordan, for sure.
Q: Do you have any game-day traditions or rituals?
A: As a team, we always have a team talk before. Then, we just get pumped by listening to music.
Q: Does everybody like the same kind of music? Can you name a song the team might listen to?
A: Yeah…We listen to (rapper Lil John’s) “Turn Down For What.”
