Roundup: Fata, Kearney lead balanced Donovan past Manchester


Junior guard James Fata scored five of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter and senior guard Eamonn Kearney added four of his 12 points in the third quarter as the Monsignor Donovan boys basketball team defeated No. 5 Manchester, 73-63, in a Shore Conference Class B South game on Thursday.

The Griffins (5-2, 3-0) also snapped Manchester’s five-game winning streak after rallying from a 35-27 halftime deficit. Monsignor Donovan led by one after three quarters, 54-53, outscoring the Hawks 27-18 to take the lead entering the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Kyle Carrington added 11 points and senior forward Tom Cerami had 10 points and five rebounds for the Griffins.

Manchester sophomore guard Shavar Reynolds scored a game-high 19 points, while sophomore guard Jordan Torney and senior guard KaShaun Barnes each added 13 points for the Hawks (5-2, 1-2).

POINT BEACH 68, HENRY HUDSON 32: Noah Yates had a game-high 17 points while Matt Farrell added 14 and Dom Uhl supplied 11 points as the No. 1 Garnet Gulls (5-0, 3-0) defeated the Admirals (3-3, 2-2) in a Class B Central game. Henry Hudson’s Jaxon Terrell had 14 points.

RB CATHOLIC 51, HOLMDEL 27: Senior center Quenton Nelson scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the third quarter and finished with 15 rebounds as the Caseys (4-3, 2-1) defeated the Hornets (3-5, 2-2) in a Class A Central game. Sophomore guard Evan Madigan added five of his 10 points in the second quarter. Holmdel junior forward Jeff Harris scored 11 points.

NEPTUNE 41, WALL 38: Senior guard Shakeem Richardson had 15 points and Kerry Kirkwood added 13 points as the Scarlet Knights (3-3, 2-1) defeated the Crimson Knights (4-3, 1-1) in a Class B North game. Wall’s Ryan Janeczek had 21 points.


FREEHOLD 40, OCEAN 22: Rebecca Cobb’s 18 points and Erica Bastry’s 10 points led the visiting Colonials past the Spartans in Class B North.

Cobb scored eight first-quarter points as the Colonials took a 13-2 lead. She netted eight in the second quarter to boost Freehold to a 23-10 halftime lead.

COLTS NECK 51, HOWELL 19: Senior forward Lindsey Bosland had 14 points and junior guard Noelle Frost added 12 points as the Cougars defeated the Rebels in Class A North. Howell senior guard Tara Mircovich had eight points.

HOLMDEL 42, RED BANK CATHOLIC 35: Junior guard Mia Ehling scored nine of her team-high 14 points in the first half leading the Hornets (6-2) over the Caseys (6-2) in a Class A Central game. Liz Zelina finished with 10 points and Morgan Graziano added 12 points for the Hornets.

Maureeen Coakley finished with a team-high 12 points for the Caseys.


SOUTHERN 5, BRICK MEM. 3: The second of Brian Aji’s two tallies was a short-handed marker late in the second period for the eventual game-winning goal as the Rams (4-1-1) charged past the Mustangs (3-4-1) in a Class A South game.

Southern’s Ryan Rowland, T.J. Hawkins and Jack Conrad rounded out the scoring, while John Rowland delivered two assists and Nicholas Karp made 22 saves to record the victory. Brick Memorial received a pair of goals from Devin Magnusson and one goal from Ryan Monahan.

BRICK 10, TR SOUTH 3: Brick’s David Kearns and Ryan Mooney each recorded hat tricks and Andrew Reiss added two more tallies as the Dragons (9-4-1) moved past the Indians (1-9-0) in a Class A South game. Brick’s Kyle Oliveira and James Wiater each delivered three assists, while Toms River South’s Dylan Simeon, Tyler O’Brien, and Ryan Snook each found the back of the net.
