The visiting Marlboro girls swimming team pushed its record to 4-1 with a 125-45 win over Howell in Shore Conference Class A North on Tuesday.

Marlboro senior Joanna Han won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke for the Mustangs. She swam the IM in 2:19.28 and completed the breaststroke in 1:10.28.

In boys action, the Mustangs bested the Rebels 128-42 in Class A North.

For Marlboro, junior Jack Karklin took the 200 freestyle in 2:08.11 and the 500 freestyle in 6:07.07. Sophomore James Rush won the 200 individual medley (2:10.83) and 100 backstroke (57.32). Marlboro is 4-2.

MON. DONOVAN 108, BARNEGAT 62: The host Griffins won for the fifth time in five outings, besting the Bengals (2-4) in Class B South. Donovan’s Corbin Borrero won the 50 freestyle (24.57) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.45). Also winning individual events for the Griffins were Connor Payne (200 freestyle, 1:56.87), George Thompson (100 butterfly, 1:00.65), Cody Keany (100 freestyle, 56.54), Alex Tenner (500 freestyle, 5:19.68) and Brian Suatengco (100 backstroke, 1:02.84).

MANASQUAN 105, OCEAN 64: Junior Jake Hegna’s two wins led the host Warriors (7-0) past the Spartans (4-3) in nondivisional action. Hegna took the 200 freestyle in 2:09.20 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.82.

MANALAPAN 89, MIDD. SOUTH 81: Nick Pimentel’s first-place 2:18.49 in the 200 individual medley helped the Braves (1-4) past the Eagles (2-3) in Class A North.

IN GIRLS SWIMMING

MON. DONOVAN 115, BARNEGAT 55: Liz Spernal won the 50 freestyle (27.72) and 100 freestyle (1:00.27), helping the host Griffins (5-0) past the Bengals (0-6) in Class B South. Teammate Thea Reyamann took the 200 freestyle (2:13.46) and 100 backstroke (1:15.26).

RARITAN 124, MONMOUTH 43: Junior Kaylee Walsh tripled, powering the Rockets past the Falcons in nondivisional action. Walsh hit the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2:49.25), the 500 freestyle (6:26.92) and the 100 breaststroke (1:29.02).

MIDD. SOUTH 130, MANALAPAN 38: Sophomore Katherine Scott won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly to help the Eagles (3-2) to a Class A North win over the Braves (0-4). Scott swam the IM in 2:25.76 and the butterfly in 1:05.11. Eagles sophomore Annemarie Schnoor won the 50 freestyle (25.76) and 100 backstroke (1:06.50).

MANASQUAN 117, OCEAN 53: Led by sophomore Sophie Smith’s two wins, the Warriors (6-1) downed the Spartans (2-4-1) in nondivisional action. Smith sped to victory in the 200 freestyle (2:17.49) and the 100 breaststroke (1:22.90).

IN ICE HOCKEY

BRICK MEM. 3, TR NORTH 2: A pair of second-period goals by the Mustangs’ Ryan Monahan and Connor Viducic canceled out a first-period goal by the Mariners’ Wayne Jackson. Jackson then tied the game at 2 with an early third-period goal, but Brick’s Ryan Magnusson followed with the game-winner as the Mustangs (4-6-1) moved past the Mariners (2-9-0) in a Class A South game.

SOUTHERN 3, CENTRAL 2: Central’s Mark Maglio and Adam Leighton answered goals by Southern’s John Rowland and Matt Scalvino in the first and second period, however, T.J. Hawkins’ goal 14 minutes into the third period allowed the Rams (5-1-1) to edge the first-year Golden Eagles (3-5-2) in a nondivisional game.

MON. DONOVAN 10, FREEHOLD 0: Monsignor Donovan’s Andrew Gargaloni scored two goals and assisted on five more, including two of J.C. Maroukis’ three goals and two more by Matt Drake, as the Griffins (5-6-0) upended the Colonials (0-8-0) in a class B South matchup. Dante Pagano, Connor Grant and Jake Loser also found the back of the net.

IN SOFTBALL

Raritan senior first baseman-pitcherEmily Schaffer will play for Post University, Post coach Tracey Garofalo said. Schaffer won many honors for the Rockets, including first-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region and first-team Press All-Shore. She hit a school single-season record 12 home runs last season, and has slugged 18 career homers. Schaffer owns a .435 career batting average along with 40 wins, 255 strikeouts and a 1.87 earned run average in her career.
