After experiencing a 48-34 lead turn into a 51-50 deficit, the Mt. Whitney Pioneers rallied over the final minutes for a 64-55 win over the Redwood Rangers in a West Yosemite League boys basketball game at Mt. Whitney.

Mt. Whitney (13-7, 3-3) was in charge throughout the first three quarters. The Pioneers were up 16-7 at the end of the first quarter, 34-18 at halftime, and 48-34 going into the final period.

But the Rangers stormed back to take a 51-50 lead. The Pioneers went back up 52-51 after Tyler Haberman sank two free throws, and didn’t relinquish the lead again.

“This springboards us into the second half of league,” Mt. Whitney coach Bob Aguilar said. “We had a couple of games [during the first WYL schedule rotation] that could have gone either way. We just have to play one game at a time, and play basketball like we did most of [Tuesday].”

Jake Eivins scored a game-high 22 points for Mt. Whitney. Ethan Moore added 12 points for the Pioneers.

Redwood (13-11, 4-2) had four players with 10 or more points: Riley Gerberick (15 points), Dom Quintanilla (13 points), Josh Carr (12 points) and Ben Wall (11 points).

El Diamante 64, Golden West 45: Tanner Faria scored 18 points and the Miners defeated the Trailblazers to close out the first half of the WYL season.

San Tensley scored 12 points and Bailey Baskovich added 11 for El Diamante (11-7, 4-2).

Golden West (4-12, 0-6) was led by Paul Arreguin with 12 points.

CVC 61, Kingsburg 57: Justin Dykstra recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers past the Vikings in a Central Sequoia League game.

Craig Kampen added 18 points and Steve Van Grouw socred 17 points for CVC (8-11, 2-1).

Porterville 47, Tulare Union 42: The Panthers tripped up the Redskins in an East Yosemite League game at Sim Iness Gymnasium.

Eddie Souza had a team-high 13 points for Tulare Union (11-13, 1-2). Stevin Morin added nine points. The Redskins visit Mission Oak on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Girls Basketball

Redwood 50, Mt. Whitney 27: The Rangers defeated the Pioneers in a WYL game at Mt. Whitney. Jasmine Black and Alijah Turner each had 14 points for Redwood (13-5, 5-1).

Boys Soccer

Farmersville 2, Orosi 1: The Aztecs stayed perfect in the East Sierra League with a win over the Cardinals.

Trailing 1-0, Pedro Berber scored the equalizer on an assist from Ismael Garcia in the 18th minute, and in the 29th minute, Moises Hernandez scored the game-winner on an assist from Johnny Cervantes.

Farmersville (16-2-2, 4-0) will play at Orange Cove on Tuesday.

Girls Soccer

CVC 2, Kingsburg 0: Kristen Von Meter scored two goals in a CSL win for the Cavaliers against the Vikings.

CVC (13-1-2, 5-0) remained undefeated in league play while giving Kingsburg its first league loss.

Taylor Van Den Berg and Hannah Fluegal each made an assist for the Cavaliers. Moriah Gonzales made seven saves.

Golden West 1, Hanford 0: Erika Valdez scored on an assist from Courtney Haagensen in the eighth minute, netting the only goal in a WYL win for the Trailblazers against the Bullpups.

Redwood 6, Hanford West 1: Maddy Messier scored three goals and the Rangers defeated the Huskies in a West Yosemite League game.

Hunter Lapp scored two goals, Kindal Mendes added one goal, and Caitlin Owens finished with three saves.

Mt. Whitney 3, El Diamante 1: The Pioneers evened their West Yosemite League record to 3-3 with a win over the Miners.

Alicia Ruiz, Ellie Warmerdam and Jailyne Del Rio each scored goals for Mt. Whitney, Kadee Vannorsdall had two assists and Kanisha Tucker finished with four saves.

The Pioneers will play Hanford on Monday.
