Roundup: Redwood softball blasts Mt. Whitney

Three Redwood softball players hit home runs in a mercy-rule victory at Mt. Whitney Tuesday.

The Rangers scored 12 runs in the first inning and eight more in the second en route to a 25-2 win in four innings. The win combined with a Golden West loss gives Redwood (13-4, 5-1) sole possession of first place in the West Yosemite League standings. Three teams are tied for second place at 4-2.

Rebekah Cervantes, Savanah White and Keeley Hernandez each hit home runs and combined to bat 6-for-7 with five extra base hits, 13 RBIs and nine runs. Haileigh Gonzalez finished a home run shy of the cycle with three runs and three RBIs. In all, Redwood produced 22 total hits.

Maddy Forester and Erica Fierro scored the two runs for Mt. Whitney and each stole a base.

Up next Redwood visits second place Hanford and Golden West hosts Mt. Whitney at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Woodlake wins again: The Woodlake Tigers won their fourth straight ESL tournament of the season with a 15-stroke win over Sierra Pacific at Valley Oaks Golf Course.

Playing 18 holes, Woodlake posted a 431. Top individuals were Woodlake’s Ryder Rochin and Strathmore’s Jack Lewis, both shot a 78.
